Hello. My name is Mitchell Trainor. I grew up in a small town in New York which is near the border of MA and CT. The high school I went to was a very small public school, I graduated in a class of 56, because of this I got to know almost everyone in my community and knew my teachers very well. While I was in high school I played and was captain of the soccer, basketball, and baseball teams. I still play any chance I get! I went on to go to the University of Rhode Island where I continued to play soccer for a year before injuring my left knee and stopped played at the D1 level; however, I am still coaching and playing with friends. Playing soccer for URI was a great experience and our team won the Atlantic 10 conference and was ranked in the top 20. I also learned a lot about self-discipline and time management while playing which will help me when I begin teaching. I went into URI as a kinesiology major and changed majors during my freshman year to Chemistry and Secondary education. I am very excited to be student teaching this spring.
Unit Plan
The purpose of this unit is to teach the students more about covalent bonding and how molecules look in 3-D. This unit will go into more detail on the covalent bond, particularly with how to draw them; Lewis Dot Diagrams and molecular geometry. This will help the students to be able start to see how a molecule looks in 3-D. This will be very helpful because chemistry is very abstract and once the students can start to see what is happening they will be able to understand the material better. The structure of the molecules will also help the students to understand how the structure can effect the properties of a molecule.
